The Science Behind ARK Fusion

Evidence-led digestive health, designed by researchers — ARK Fusion science and research

The Science Behind ARK Fusion

ARK Fusion is an evidence-led gut-health brand founded by researchers. Dr Amanda Kearns and Rowan Kearns bring complementary research specialisms to ARK. This page separates their work clearly, shows selected research outputs for each researcher, and links to their researcher profiles for the fuller and evolving records.

Meet the researchers behind ARK Fusion

Dr Amanda Kearns, ARK Fusion researcher

Dr Amanda Kearns, PhD, MPH, MBS, BSc

Research focus: digital health communication, obesity, mental health, health-professional practice and accessible health education. Amanda's work examines how people and health professionals use and interpret digital tools, including emerging AI-generated health communication, and the implications for trust, communication and person-centred care.

Selected research outputs

How do health professionals and the public perceive the use of digital communication tools in obesity and mental health care? (2026), Behaviour & Information Technology.

AI-Generated Health Communication to Understand How People Interpret Client Narratives: Interpretive Variability and Its Implications for Trust and Biopsychosocial Care Prioritisation (2026), ICT4AWE 2026.
View the conference paper via DOI
Assessing the Uses, Benefits, and Limitations of Digital Technologies Used by Health Professionals in Supporting Obesity and Mental Health Communication: Scoping Review (2025), Journal of Medical Internet Research.

Amanda's Ulster University profile currently lists 10 research outputs. The three above are selected examples rather than a complete record.

Dr Rowan Kearns, ARK Fusion researcher

Dr Rowan Kearns, PhD, MSc, BSc

Research focus: gut microbiota, gastrointestinal health, gut permeability, inflammation, probiotic research, the gut-brain axis and sports nutrition. Rowan's work examines digestive health in sport and biological pathways connecting the microbiome, intestinal integrity and systemic inflammation.

Selected research outputs

Dietary Information for Gut Endurance Sport Testing (DIGEST): exploring the relationship between gut health, sports nutrition knowledge and nutritional practices in elite sport (2025), Sport Sciences for Health.

Do probiotics mitigate GI-induced inflammation and perceived fatigue in athletes? A systematic review (2024), Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
View the paper via DOI
The Kynurenine Pathway in Gut Permeability and Inflammation (2025), Inflammation.

These are selected examples rather than a complete record. Rowan's wider research includes additional work on inflammatory signalling and neuroinflammation.

How research informs ARK Fusion

1. We start with the evidence, not the trend

Research helps the ARK team ask better questions about ingredients, strains, doses, formulation logic and the limits of current evidence. We distinguish between evidence for a nutrient or microorganism, evidence for a particular formulation, and evidence for a specific health outcome.

2. We keep academic research separate from product claims

A paper about a biological pathway, digital health communication or a category of ingredients is not proof that an ARK product treats a disease or produces the same outcome. Product pages and educational guides are therefore written to describe ingredients, permitted nutrition or health claims where applicable, and practical use without turning research findings into unsupported treatment promises.

3. We make the source trail visible

Where a guide discusses health evidence, we aim to link to authoritative guidance or peer-reviewed research so readers can inspect the source rather than relying on marketing language alone.

How ARK reviews health information

Our Gut Health Guides use a source hierarchy that prioritises current public-health and regulatory guidance, peer-reviewed research, and verified product information. Read How ARK Gut Health Guides are researched and reviewed for the full process.

Frequently asked questions

Who conducts the research shown on this page?

The research outputs are attributed under the individual researcher who authored or co-authored them. Amanda's and Rowan's records are presented in separate, equally weighted sections so authorship is clear.

Why are only three research outputs shown for each researcher?

The page is designed to give a balanced overview rather than reproduce two complete academic CVs. Three selected examples are shown for Amanda and three for Rowan, with researcher-profile links provided for the fuller and evolving records.

Where can I see the complete research records?

Use the ORCID links in each researcher's profile. Amanda's Ulster University profile is also linked above and currently lists her wider institutional research outputs.

Does ARK's published research prove that its supplements treat medical conditions?

No. Academic research can inform scientific understanding, communication and formulation questions, but it should not be presented as proof that a food supplement diagnoses, prevents, treats or cures a disease.

Where can I read ARK's evidence-checked consumer guides?

Visit the ARK Gut Health Guides for practical articles on bowel routine, post-meal bloating, antibiotics and travel, live-culture counts and daily gut-health habits.

Need help choosing a next step?

If you are comparing ARK products, use the routine finder or review the educational guides first. For more personalised support, you can view consultation options.
